Live wait times for passengers at Edinburgh airport

Tech Talk
Edinburgh airport has joined the list of BlipTrack customers, using its technology and sensors to gather data about passenger flow.

In July 2016, Edinburgh airport reported an increase of 9.6% in passenger traffic compared with the same month last year: its busiest month yet. With passenger numbers predicted to grow from 11m to 12m this year, Scotland’s busiest airport has seen fit to enlist the expertise of BlipTrack’s solution to help measure and manage passenger numbers smoothly and efficiently.

Using Bluetooth/wi-fi technology, BlipTrack collects important data at crucial points around the airport to provide detailed information about passenger queue times and movement patterns around the airport. The data gives the airport a clear picture on trends and how they are performing, enabling them to respond proactively where necessary, for example if lines are becoming congested, to help minimise processing times. Collecting this data also enables the airport to feed live wait times to display boards for passengers to take stock of as they move around the airport – as well as online before they even arrive on the grounds. This serves to reduce passengers´ frustration by creating realistic wait time expectations and may help to improve the overall traveler experience.

A variety of international airports are already using the BlipTrack solution to display real-time wait times, including JFK, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Helsinki and, most recently, Dublin.
