The animation, entitled Fuelling Safety, is aimed at everyone working on and around the apron where aircraft are parked and serviced.
Five minutes in duration, the animation uses 3D computer-generated imagery to depict a typical aircraft refuelling scene. It encourages ground staff to be alert to potential hazards, to keep a safe distance from fuelling equipment and to know what to do in an emergency.
JIG's General Manager, Tony Conway, says that the free-to-download animation is intended not just for those involved in aircraft fuelling, but for airport operators, airlines and service companies as well.
"JIG is committed to achieving the highest safety standards around fuelling operations. We commissioned the animation in response to survey feedback from our members which highlighted the need for continued focus on safety during all aspects of aircraft turnaround activities," he commented.
"More than 30 people can be working on the apron to prepare an aircraft for its next flight, therefore it's vital that everyone understands and observes safety procedures in this busy area. Quick and efficient turnaround of an aircraft can only be achieved safely if everybody is aware of what’s going on, so as well as distributing the animation to all our members, JIG is making it freely available to the wider aviation industry, who we hope will also use it in their safety training."
