JetBlue stakes environmental claim

US carrier JetBlue had a busier operation in 2016 compared with the previous year and this extra activity saw it increase by 1.08% its carbon emissions total.

This statistic was also influenced by the fact that it suffered longer taxi-ing times at airports because of congested airspace within its operating environment in the north-east.

In its defence, though, the carrier asserts that the intensity of greenhouse gases emitted was lower by 0.62% (and 4.9% down on its 2008 baseline reporting year).

The carrier continues its efforts towards saving a creditable 500,000 gallons of fuel burn per year and to achieve this goal it has been making extensive use of biofuel in flight whilst looking to deploy battery-powered GSE on the ramp wherever possible.
