The joint venture deal is intended to boost JAL’s access to Hawaii, one of the most popular tourist destinations for Japanese travellers.
“This year marks the 63rd year since we opened the Hawaii route and our partnership will mark a new start,” commented Yoshiharu Ueki, Representative Director and President of JAL.
The agreement is the latest in the string of partnerships JAL has announced since it was freed from government-imposed restrictions on investment and route expansions in April.
Since then, JAL has announced code-sharing agreements with Vietnamese low cost carrier Vietjet Air and India’s Vistara, part of the Tata group. It also initiated nonstop flights from Tokyo to Melbourne, Australia, and added services between Narita airport and Kona, Hawaii, this month.
The two airlines have said that the new partnership will officially begin on March 25, 2017.
