Iberia Airport Services submits handling licence bid to AENA

Iberia Airport Services has submitted its bid to AENA for handling licences at 41 airports across Spain.

Each airport licence has received a customised bid focusing on sustainability, innovation and cost, in line with AENA’s specifications.

The offers have been audited by Cap Gemini, and the bids were developed with assistance from areas of the company including human resources, sustainability, transformation and legal, and others, who all worked for months on the proposals.

It has bid for licences at 37 airports on its own and in a joint venture at Seville, Valencia, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, locations where it does not have a handling licence.

Jose Luis de Luna, Director of Airport Services, said: “Thanks to everyone’s efforts, we have presented bids that we are convinced are the most competitive in order to continue to support all Iberia people who work in this business, and to continue to maintain it within Iberia.”

To meet sustainability targets, Iberia Airport Services included a significant investment in equipment renewal and more than 30 measures to improve waste management, increase the use of renewable energies and promote a sustainable culture among its employees.

For innovation, Iberia Airport Services says it will develop an ambitious transformation programme with more than 60 transversal initiatives based on biometrics, telemetry and data analysis, among others, to improve efficiency and service.

Last Thursday (17 November), an agreement was reached with the main trade unions on the 22nd Collective Agreement for Ground Staff, affecting 8,000 Iberia Airport Service workers, which allows it to bid for these handling tenders with cost base and productivity improvements in areas including shift planning and schedules.
