Hactl thermal detection system moves to next phase

Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals (Hactl) has started Phase 2 of its intelligent cargo thermal detection system at SuperTerminal 1.

The first phase was launched in December 2023 to scan cargo for exceptional temperatures immediately before being loaded onto aircraft.

Phase 2 extends capabilities to scan bulk cargo during acceptance to provide a double layer of protection for the facility, terminal users, customers, staff and cargo.

The thermal detection system combines advanced thermal imaging, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, data analytics and AI to overcome limitations of existing thermal energy monitoring techniques.

It monitors temperature in real-time, identifying abnormal conditions and sending alerts to reduce the risk of damage caused by suspicious temperatures in cargo.

Kenneth Chan, Executive Director – Engineering and Facility Services at Hactl said: “Once again Hactl is showing the way to the future through the implementation of this next phase of its intelligent cargo thermal detection system. We will continue to take all necessary steps to ensure we remain at the cutting edge of safety and security in the air cargo handling business.”

The next step will be to implement the same level of scrutiny for export prepacked cargo at its acceptance.
