Fraport Greece will invest €30.5m in a modern airport, three times bigger than the current facility. Development plans include the construction of a new terminal, which will be 188% larger than the old facility, at 24,100 square metres.
A new fire station will be constructed and sewage treatment facilities will be refurbished and expanded. Also part of the development is a 75% increase of check-in desks and a 125% increase of security checkpoints, which will enhance the quality of the services offered.
The plans were reportedly well-received by the local authorities and stakeholders, representatives of which attended the event.
Fraport Greece CEO, Alexander Zinell, explained that the company hopes its investment will help bolster Kos’ tourism. “The last few years have been very challenging for the island and its people,” he began, adding: “we want to welcome more tourists and offer modern services.”
“Our goal is to welcome the island’s visitors in a brand-new terminal in the summer of 2020, an airport that both Kos and its citizens rightfully deserve,” Zinnel concluded.
Fraport Greece will be hosting a series of events in all fourteen areas that its airports serve, to strengthen its relationships with regional stakeholders.
