The new cabin crew and engineer uniforms will incorporate a variety of wearable technology features as part of easyJet's 20th anniversary celebrations. The gadgets are to include built-in microphones so engineers, crew and pilots can talk to each other, and LED lights dotted on the shoulders of cabin crew uniform that will display flight number and destination, serving as a reminder for passengers. The LEDs and illuminated hems also provide extra lighting in case of an emergency.
The engineer uniform will come complete with reflective panels and LEDs in the hood, intended to light up work areas in lieu of a torch, so employees are left with two free hands and can carry out their work unimpeded. Built-in video cameras enable picture-sharing with fellow engineers to help diagnose problems, while air quality sensors and a barometer help engineers monitor their work environment and create a map of air quality in different cities.
The uniforms are courtesy of wearable technology fashion experts CuteCircuit, previously best known for LED-studded outfits worn by celebrities including Katy Perry and Nicole Scherzinger. A trial for the uniforms will begin early next year, following which a decision will be made on whether they will be implemented on a wider scale.
