Under the Consort Aviation brand, the new in-house operation will deliver full range ground handling services including fuelling to general, business and military aircraft; services currently provided by Weston Aviation.
Weston, a global service provider established in 1995, operates private jet and group charters, cargo aircraft charters and VIP flight services, as well as providing ground handling operations at five UK and Irish airports.
The Middlesbrough airport has indicated that the new in-house format is being implemented as part of the airport’s development strategy. Business Development Director for Durham Tees Valley, David Grant, explained. “A key element in the masterplan for the airport is to increase activity in the business and general aviation sectors. Consort Aviation will enable us to provide a co-ordinated delivery of the full range of VIP and specialist ground handling services,” he remarked. Grant added that the new arrangement will be a major contributor to the airport’s direct delivery of business services, an objective it began last year when the provision of aviation fuel was taken in house.
Commending the work of Weston Aviation, Grant concluded that a consultation process with affected staff regarding transfering to the new company is imminent, adding, “Subject to appropriate due diligence, Consort Aviation will come into operation in the spring of 2017. In the meantime, Weston Aviation will continue to provide their services at DTVA.”
