The all-electric trucks from Mercedes and Volvo were on display at GSE Expo Europe 2024, which was held at the FIL in Lisbon, Portugal, with DOLL saying they were finished concepts that went into operation after the show.
The Volvo FLE high loader was sold to KLM for operations in the Netherlands and the Mercedes eEconic will provide catering services at Vienna Airport in the near future.
The Mercedes is the first two-axle eEconic, building on experience from the three-axle version, which has been in use for municipal waste management.
Renato Ramella, Managing Director of DOLL Airport Equipment, said: “Through cooperation with leading electric truck manufacturers, we are able to offer our customers a 100% emission-free vehicle that is fully operational and ready for series production."
DOLL high loaders are equipped with intelligent assistance systems for vehicle operation and prevent accidents on the airfield.
When approaching an aircraft, the systems assist the driver with a 3D sensor system.
The system scans the area around the vehicle and automatically brakes if it comes within less than 0.5 metres of an object.
A 3D camera helps the driver detect the distance between the aircraft and vehicle and when the driver is in their final position, they have a display showing where supports, scissor lifts, suitcases or platforms are located.
Using the 7-inch display in the driver’s cab or the control panel in the cargo area, the driver can monitor and control all relevant vehicle functions.
The optional 12-inch Vision X display offers a 360-degree view and short, simple instruction videos for operating all the vehicle functions.
Pierre Marx, Key Account Manager of DOLL Airport Equipment, said: “Our control and operating system 'DOLL OCS' allows any driver to operate our vehicles safely, even in stressful situations.”
