Handling Talk
dnata has signed a concession agreement with the Government of Zanzibar and two partners to operate the airport’s international terminal.

It will provide ground and passenger handling services to airline customers at Zanzibar Abeid Amani Karume International Airport and is expecting to handle over 4,000 flights a year.

dnata will also establish cargo operations at the airport, which will comply with industry standards to handle products including perishables, pharmaceuticals, dangerous goods, live animals, aircraft engines and vehicles.

Over $7m is being invested at the airport and up to 400 jobs will be created.

The partners are Emirates Leisure Retail, who will partner with MMI as master concessionaire for food and beverage, duty free and commercial outlooks, and SEGAP, who will support the Zanzibar Airports Authority in a management capacity.

Steve Allen, Executive Vice President of dnata and Chairman of Emirates Leisure Retail and MMI says: “We are thrilled to expand our global footprint into Africa and establish operations at the airport of Zanzibar. We are confident that our investment in the local aviation industry will stimulate tourism and trade, delivering significant benefits for Zanzibar businesses and the local community.”
