The 100,000 square foot, specialised cargo facility has afforded DHL Express 38,000 square foot of space, trebling the size of the company’s previous warehouse and logistics operation at Calgary airport.
In attendance at the ceremony were Calgary Mayor, Naheed Nenshi, and Mel Belich, chair of the Board of the Calgary Airport Authority, joined by Andrew Williams, CEO of DHL Express Canada.
This latest air cargo facility is part of the airport's Global Logistics Parks, which connect commercial, airside and cargo handling, freight forwarding and logistics companies on more than 330 acres of land. The development will not only provide direct access to the airport’s new dedicated cargo apron, but will allow DHL Express Canada to position itself for future growth in Calgary.
Calgary International maintains the position of the leading air cargo gateway in the province of Alberta, transporting 134,695 tonnes of cargo in 2015, which represents more than 75% of all air cargo moved in the province.
