China Southern decides to lose weight

Cargo Matters
AAR's Nordisk Aviation Products recently received orders for more than 1,100 lightweight air cargo containers and pallets from China Southern Airlines.

Nordisk's unit load devices, which are among the lightest in weight in the industry, should provide the airline with savings of more than 1,100 tonnes of fuel a year, whilst reducing carbon emissions by more than 3,500 tonnes. The containers and pallets will be manufactured at Nordisk's facility in Kunshan, China, for a shorter delivery lead time.

"We are pleased to provide China Southern Airlines with fuel-efficient, lightweight containers and pallets that, in addition to protecting the environment, help to enhance the safe and reliable transport of passenger cargo," commented Boon Yang Sim, Nordisk's Vice President of Sales and Business Development, Asia Pacific and the People's Republic of China.

Nordisk is the leading industry supplier of air cargo containers and pallets, having delivered more than 680,000 units to global markets over the past 40 years.
