The scheme comes following a recorded 25,000 tonne decline in cargo volumes for the airport last year. Under the terms of the programme, all-cargo operators at the Brazilian airport (that meet the specified criteria) will be exempt from the landing fees from March 27 this year to March 25 2017, as part of a drive to encourage new business from international cargo companies.
Sao Paulo-Guarulhos airport said of the scheme: “Airlines interested in joining the programme must meet minimum requirements, like operating a new regular route between GRU airport and a country in Africa, North America, Asia, Europe or Oceania.
Going on to detail the terms and objectives of the programme, it said: “In order to qualify to the incentive, operations must be outside peak hours and take place at least once a week with monthly regularity of at least 80%, according to Hotran planning.
“The goal with bringing new cargo flights is to offer a complete logistics solution to customers that already operate with GRU airport, as many types of cargo can only be transported by cargo only aircraft."
