Better facilities for specialist cargo at Bordeaux-Mérignac airport

Cargo Matters
A new infrastructure dedicated to phytosanitary and veterinary inspections has opened at Bordeaux-Mérignac airport.

The airport has for many years been an approved European Union Border Inspection Post for the importation of plants and products of animal origin, and it wished to renew and extend its facilities for regulatory inspections on entry into the European area. This was firstly to meet the needs of the public authorities and secondly those of the many importing companies in the greater southwest region of France.
The aim of the companies utilising this platform is twofold: that of shortening the time allocated to import inspections and that of carrying out these formalities as close as possible to the end customer.

The new facilities, located in the customs area on the runway side, comprise around 300 square metres and include two unloading areas, a pair of veterinary testing laboratories (one for products for human consumption and one for non-human consumption), a phytosanitary testing laboratory and four cold rooms.
