Luxair expands animal-care facilities

Cargo Matters
Luxair has added substantial capacity to the live animal station at its cargo centre at Luxembourg Findel airport.

The number of animal stalls has been increased to 50, which includes nine collapsible units in addition to fixed units. Luxair also plans to increase space for groomers and animal handlers to enable them to remain with their animals throughout their journey.

Cargolux, which recently launched its new CV Alive product, will also benefit from these developments. Animal shipments are handled by the airline in full compliance with the IATA Live Animal Regulations and the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species. Through Cargolux's headquarters and the Luxair Cargo Centre, the carriers provide live animal inspection rooms and veterinary facilities, an EU-certified veterinary station at the Luxembourg hub and night time accommodation in purpose-built pens, located in a contained, noise-protected area. Not only this but temperature and lighting controls are also available that are adjustable to suit different species and animals are kept in comfortable environments with proper ventilation and temperature-control systems. Movement from aircraft to pen can be carried out without any ground contact occurring, for reasons relating to sanitation and disease protection.
