Aviation Services Network manages workforce with RMS from EPG

Aviation Services Network has implemented Aviation Resource Management System (RMS) from Ehrhardt Partner Group to manage its workforce planning processes.

The system has been designed to manage ground and cargo handling requirements, enabling Aviation Services Network to precisely manage shifts at Berlin Brandenburg Airport.

To manage physically demanding and labour intensive operations, which often involve irregular hours, the system controls all aspects of workforce planning, manages shifts and duty scheduling, tracks absences and holidays, and allows for flexible responses.

It supports the enforcement of service level agreements and process definitions critical when working with Lufthansa Group airlines.

Michael Lewalter, Managing Director of Aviation Services Network said: “Operational planning is difficult to predict in advance and often presents last-minute surprises. This is why we see the high level of customisation offered by RMS as one of its biggest advantages over other tools. With other systems, even minor changes often trigger lengthy change requests and complex reprogramming.”

Daily tasks are digitally assigned through the RMS application and once a task is accepted and started, dispatchers have full visibility into the handling process and can intervene if needed.

When there are changes to the daily flight schedule, tasks can be reassigned.

The system issues automated alerts when necessary such as when there are staff shortages.

The RMS Mobile app allows employees to actively engage in the scheduling process by submitting their shift preferences directly through the app, making it easier for planners to accommodate for individual needs.

Lewalter said: “We view shift planning as a key factor in employee satisfaction. It must reconcile operational efficiency with employee preferences and needs. RMS enables a system-supported, highly intuitive approach to achieving this balance.”

The rollout in Berlin followed an extensive evaluation process involving a site visit to reference customer and implementation partner Aviation Handling Services at Munich Airport.

Rene Merkens, Director Sales Logistics Solutions at EPG said that integrating the seasonal flight schedules was complex for the pilot project in Berlin due to the volume of information, data formats and system languages.

He said: “Thanks to the modular and highly adaptable structure of RMS, we were able to customise the existing solution to allow for simple import of flight schedules into our system going forward.”
