Anti-collision devices from Mallaghan

Tech Talk GSE Focus
Mallaghan has recently introduced an anti-collision system for its catering truck mounted high-lift vehicles.

This new system adds to the basic safety requirements applicable to aircraft ground support equipment and conforms to the AHM 913 standard. With impact damage to an aircraft being a major concern, this system has the means to constantly monitor the distance to the aircraft, the vehicle’s approach speed and the geometry of the vehicle. Based on these factors the system provides control, sequencing and safety interlocks to make the approach operation as safe as possible.

The Mallaghan anti-collision system works on the "assist" principle, with safety capabilities of the system designed to improve the driver's decision making and assist in their control of the vehicle.

The system operates using the latest technology. A 3-D camera uses time-of-flight distance measurement and photonic mixing device technology to identify an object in its field of view, capturing the entire object in three dimensions.

Benefits of the system include reduced aircraft impact damage, assistance for GSE approach and docking operations, aircraft proximity detection, control and monitoring of the vehicles approach speed and improved driver decision making.
