Airport lounge expansion at Bangkok

Lounge & Catering
Airports of Thailand plans to develop a 5,500 square metre space for new airport lounges by reclaiming an area near Concourse D on the third floor of the passenger terminal.

Lounge floor space is expected to increase from its current 20,554 square metres by 27%, and has already been allocated to four airlines – three of which already have lounges at Bangkok's main airport – a newcomer, Qatar Airways, and Louis' Tavern Transit Hotel. Thai Airways international and Louis' Tavern – who already occupy the largest lounge areas in the airport – have secured the most space in the new area, obtaining about 2,200 square metres each. Bangkok Airways will receive 200 square metres more lounge space, adding to its current 1,354 square metres, while Singapore Airlines will almost double its space, adding 300 square metres to its current 314 square metres.

Suvarnabhumi will consequently become the second airport outside Qatar Airways' Doha hub where the airline has its own lounge. Its Bangkok International lounge is expected to be an upgrade of its world-acclaimed facility at London Heathrow airport, described as more of a private club than a lounge.
While AoT hopes the new lounges can open by the end of 2015, airline executives are sceptical because of the inevitable length of the process.
