EnerSys’ has installed batteries from its Hawker Perfect Plus and Ironclad battery ranges, advanced battery management systems and sophisticated charge-and-change facilities, with the objective of enhancing the efficiency and reliability of the vehicles and operations in general.
The batteries in TGS’ equipment were in sub-par condition and poor management had resulted in individual units losing their capacity quickly - failing in little more than a year. To combat the inconsistent, inefficient operation of the vehicles, the Turkish Airlines and Havas joint venture.commissioned the help of EnerSys, which supplied a complete set of new batteries, chargers and related equipment. This included 100 of its advanced Hawker Perfect Plus batteries for the luggage tugs and 90 of its powerful Ironclad batteries for the push-back tractors, which offer up to 15% longer running times than comparable models.

EnerSys also designed TGS’ new charge-and-change facility, which incorporates 100 of the advanced Hawker Life iQ high frequency programmable smart chargers. With a lower charging factor than conventional models, these efficient chargers help to reduce energy consumption and lower carbon footprint. Also incorporated were 200 Wi- iQ wireless battery monitoring devices, which track metrics such as charge, temperature, voltage and electrolyte level and upload data to the main battery management system.
Together, the advanced capabilities of the EnerSys batteries, chargers and monitoring systems ensure optimised charging profiles and more efficient, reliable operations for TGS at six airports in Turkey, where the systems have been installed. These include Ataturk, Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen International, Ankara, Antalya, Bodrum and Dalaman airports.
