Teesside International Airport will be a pilot area for hydrogen vehicles as part of Tees Valley’s programme to be the UK’s first Hydrogen Transport Hub.

A ground support tug will be converted to run on hydrogen by ULEMCo and Toyota will provide two Mirai fuel cell vehicles and a forklift truck.
The trials aim to show that hydrogen vehicles can be filled up quickly and easily, improving air quality and meeting emissions targets.
The £2.5m project will see the airport and other Tees Valley organisations testing hydrogen vehicles.
Tees Valley Mayor, Ben Houchen says: “Following our multi-million-pound redevelopment of our passenger terminal it’s only right we ensure our ground operations vehicles are fit-for-purpose and helping lead the region’s clean energy ambitions. I want Teesside Airport to be first hydrogen ready airport in the UK and this is the first important step.”
