To that end, it has signed a contract with Crudine Ridge; this will mean that 75% of its power supply will emanate from this wind farm. In this instance, the Origin company will deal directly with Crudine Ridge and then guarantee the supply to Sydney airport with “firming” generation or contracts at times when the wind is not strong enough to meet the demands of the airport.
Crudine Ridge, a 135 megawatt wind farm, is being developed at a cost of around A$300m and lies to the south of Mudgee. Behind it is a partnership involving the Partners Group and CWP Renewables. Construction got underway earlier this year and is expected to finish in 2019.
Crudine Ridge has already contracted to supply around half of its output to Meridian Energy and its local retailer Powershop, as part of a series of renewable energy deals that have enabled it to drop its tariffs by 5% early on in 2018.
