SriLankan Airlines rolls out specialised training for staff at BIA

SriLankan Airlines’ service staff at Bandaranaike International airport received specialised training last week, with a view to enhancing the passenger experience.

SriLankan is the sole airport ground handler for airlines operating at the airport in Colombo, handling nearly 9m passenger movements on approximately 70,000 flights.

A four-day training programme was led by instructors from the St. John Ambulance Service. Training focused on the handling of wheelchair and stretcher-bound passengers, with the objective of enhancing the safety and comfort of elderly passengers and those requiring special assistance.

SriLankan Airlines, General Manager Airport & Ground Services, Bandula Weragama said: “We remain steadfast in our commitment to provide the finest levels of service to our valued passengers, especially as our volumes of traffic at BIA increase, growing year on year due to the steady growth in tourist arrivals and larger numbers of Sri Lankans travelling overseas.”

During nearly four decades of operation, Sri Lanka’s flag carrier has built a strong reputation in terms of customer service: one of the first ground handlers to receive the prestigious IATA ISAGO certification in 2008, SriLankan’s IATA certification has been renewed continuously since.
