SATS and Vietnam Airlines to build Long Thanh cargo terminal

SATS and Vietnam Airlines have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to build and operate a cargo terminal at Long Thanh International Airport.

The new airport, located 35 kilometres from Ho Chi Minh City in Dong Nai province, will alleviate congestion at Tan Son Nhat International Airport.

Long Thanh will open in phases with Phase 1 expected to commence operations in the second half of 2026 with capacity for 25 million passengers and 1.2 million tonnes of cargo.

It will be extended in phases to its full capacity of 100 million passengers and five million tonnes of cargo annually by 2050.

The collaboration will combine SATS’s handling expertise with Vietnam Airlines’ plans to launch Vietnam’s first freighter airline.

The two companies will develop ground and cargo handling services with customised solutions such as trucking and middle-mile services through SATS and its partners.

Kerry Mok, President and CEO of SATS, said: “This partnership offers significant growth potential as we jointly explore new opportunities in global markets. At SATS, we bring extensive expertise and experience to the table, ensuring the provision of efficient cargo terminal and ground handling services at Vietnam’s newest airport.”
