Having previously only been certified to handle Pharma 1-3 products, Rio de Janeiro’s new authority to handle goods in the 15-25 degrees Celsius temperature range has earned it an upgrade to Pharma 4 status.
With this upgrade, Rio becomes the first station in Latin America with the Pharma 4 certification and part of Delta’s Variation Pharma programme. This programme is a SkyTeam Cargo product for temperature-controlled shipments, including vaccines, medicines and pharmaceuticals.
Gareth Joyce, new president of Delta Cargo, commented on the growing club. “Expanding our Pharma 4 stations to include Rio de Janeiro echoes our commitment to globalisation and is a direct response to customer feedback,” he said. “Delta Cargo has 49 stations around the globe certified to handle one or more Variation Pharma products, 16 of which are certified for Pharma 4. Our vast network will connect Brazil to the world.”
A specialised Pharma desk at the Delta Cargo Minneapolis Customer Service Centre monitors Pharma 4 shipments throughout travel at the request of the customer, the carrier said.
