New ground handling rates in Nigeria welcomed by industry

Handling Talk
The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and federal government have approved ground handling rates for international carriers and domestic operators in Nigeria that will come into effect from 1 October, 2021 and 1 January, 2022, respectively.

This means the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company (NAHCO), Skyway Aviation Handling Company (SAHCO), Precision Aviation Handling Company (PAHCOL) and Swissport Handling Company could now charge the same handling rates as in other sub-African countries.

The rates, which have not been adjusted for the last 35 years, will vary between $1,500 and $5,000 for handlers of narrow- and wide-body aircraft, respectively. Domestic handlers will now pay between N25,000 and N70,000.

Olaniyi Adigun, Chairman of Aviation Ground Handling Association of Nigeria (AGHAN), said he appreciated the Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika for coming to the rescue of the ground handling companies.

“In fact, the federal government saved us from extinction because the low pricing was gradually killing the ground-handling sub-sector," he added.
