The “Green Solutions” prize was awarded by HRH Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark together with the Danish Export Association. The prize, presented for the first time in 2020, honours companies or individuals who have made a special effort to promote sustainable Danish solutions globally.
Three HRH Crown Prince Frederik International Business Awards will be awarded once a year in the categories of Business Excellence, Green Solutions and Newcomer of the Year. His Royal Highness is the chairman of the jury, alongside a number of top executives from Danish export companies.
“Danish companies have products and solutions that contribute to promoting the sustainable agenda internationally. The award honours the very special efforts that both established and new Danish companies deliver, ” the Prince stated.
For more than ten years, RATE has represented ITW GSE in Australia. During this time, it has delivered and installed Danish-made ground power units and air conditioning units at more than 130 aircraft parking positions in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Darwin airports, amongst others, supplying aircraft with electrical power and fresh air when they are parked at the gate.
Poul Elvstroem, Vice President Sales and Marketing at ITW GSE, praised the RATE's use of valuable feedback and innovative thinking to create new solutions for the benefit of its customers. One such example is the solar project in Darwin airport, where a 5.5 MW solar facility has been established airside to reduce carbon footprint.
“When Darwin airport bought ITW GSE battery GPUs, the intention was to supply aircraft with clean power, but RATE and Darwin airport soon got the very good idea of storing some of the energy from the solar farm in the batteries of the eGPUs,” explains Elvstroem. “Selling energy to the utility happens at lower rates than buying electricity from the utility. So whatever can be stored and saved for later use is a true win and supports the sustainability efforts of Darwin airport even better. The solar project is not only innovative. It also serves as inspiration for other airports and for ITW’s world-wide distribution network.”
Furthermore, when ITW GSE introduced its 7400 battery-driven GPU, RATE purchased six units immediately and launched a marketing campaign at the annual Australia Airport Association conference, inspiring other major airports to consider battery over diesel-powered GPUs, which have the potential to save thousands of tonnes of CO2.
