In the UK, the surprise news has been that of Menzies losing a long-established handling contract with Lufthansa at Heathrow airport. The changeover will occur on February 1, with Swissport taking over the handling services for the German carrier. Menzies will continue with cargo, however.
On the plus side, Menzies has confirmed contract wins for its ground services business with Qantas Airways, at Perth, Brisbane, Cairns and Darwin.
As of this week, Menzies commenced transition of operations at both Perth and Brisbane, with operations at the other stations commencing in the next few weeks. Across all four stations, Menzies will handle over 40,000 Qantas flights per year. This multi-station award builds on the momentum of the recent major contract win with Jetstar Airways at its Melbourne hub.
