Menzies goes electric as it renews Aer Lingus contract in Manchester

Menzies Aviation has extended its contract with Aer Lingus at Manchester Airport to provide passenger, ramp, cabin cleaning and de-icing services.

The two companies have worked together at Manchester Airport for over a decade, and Menzies will be increasing the amount of electric ground service equipment (GSE) within its fleet as it aims to become carbon neutral by 2033.

Phil Lloyd, Senior Vice President – UK and Ireland at Menzies Aviation says the ground handler is eager to support Aer Lingus’ transatlantic routes, and the contract gives it the opportunity to electrify its GSE fleet.

He says: “The switch to electric was made possible through close collaboration with Aer Lingus and Manchester Airports Group as we needed to quickly adapt the infrastructure on the ramp to charge the GSE. The team are proud to see their electric fleet at Manchester grow and are excited about supporting Aer Lingus as flight volumes continue to recover.”
