Menzies expands in Central America and Australia

Menzies is expanding its global footprint with an acquisition in Central America and new contracts in Australia.

In Central America, Menzies has agreed to acquire 51% of InterExpresso Costa Rica Corporacion, which provides cargo handling and aviation security services, covering document handling, security screening and aircraft access control.

The San Jose, Costa Rica-based company also has operations in Guatemala and El Salvador.

Menzies plans to develop InterExpresso’s cargo and security services and expand into additional cargo and ground handling services.

Philipp Joeinig, Chairman & CEO of Menzies, says: “I am pleased to announce our expansion in the Central American region. We have found a knowledgeable partner in Interexpresso and, working together, we will be able to open doors in new, attractive, higher margin and emerging markets in the region.”

In Australia, Menzies has secured new business with Virgin Australia to provide ground services in Darwin, Cairns and Queenstown and cargo services in Darwin from mid-October. They are in addition to retaining business in Sydney, Melbourne, Kalgoorlie, Perth, Brisbane, Cairns and Gold Coast.

Menzies will handle 8,000 flights and 6,500 tonnes of cargo a year at 10 locations for Virgin Australia.
