Menzies Aviation commits to net zero by 2045

Menzies Aviation has set itself the target of being net zero by 2045 and is preparing to submit its carbon reduction commitments to the Science Based Targets initiatives (SBTi).

The commitments have been published in its 2022 Annual Review & Sustainability Report, which refreshes targets following the launch of the All In plan in 2021.

The board are accountable for setting Menzies’ strategy with a commitment to ensure reporting against stated objectives is accessible and transparent.

Menzies Aviation has committed to being netnzero for scope 1, 2 and 3 CO2e emissions across the company by 2045.

In the past year, measures to make operations more sustainable include adding nearly 200 electric GSE to the fleet with the aim of making 25% of motorised GSE electric by 2025.

The first GSE refurbishment and repower workshop has opened in Las Vegas to convert diesel baggage tractors to electric, with plans to scale this further in 2023 and beyond.

Customers and key stakeholders are being proactively supported in their emission reduction efforts through the adoption of sustainable solutions.

Training, awareness and cyber reporting for employees has been improved with new technologies being rolled out to improve managing vulnerabilities and proactively detect malicious activities in IT systems.

Menzies has adopted the United Nations Women’s Empowerment Principles to promote gender equality and it is participating in 2 UN Accelerator programmes, Target Gender Equality and Climate Ambition Accelerator.

It is actively participating in the UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Ambition Accelerator programme focusing on progressing goal 13 Climate Action.

New training has been delivered to support employees by focusing on allyship and unconscious bias.

To help refugees secure work at Menzies, it has joined the Tent Partnership for Refugees.
