The competition, which was created to recognise workplace safety and efficiency in cargo handling, saw teams from Air China Cargo, Air France, KLM and Martinair Cargo, China Southern Cargo, Hactl, IAG Cargo, Malaysia Airlines and Saudi Airlines compete, with second place overall going to Nippon Cargo Airlines.
For the forklift driving competition, teams of four were required to navigate a complex route in forklift trucks, with this year’s event also involving a lifting element as part of the sequence, while the pallet building contest required teams to build up as much cargo as possible, in accordance with IATA standards and industry best practice, to the designated contour, in one hour.
While panels of specialist professionals judged the competitions, observers in attendance included VIPs such as Under Secretary for Transport and Housing, Mr Yau Shing-mu, and Dr Winson Yeung, Principal Consultant, Occupational Safety and Health Council, who presented the awards along with Hactl’s Chief Executive, Mark Whitehead.
Whitehead said that Hactl was pleased to bring together teams from around the world once again, congratulating all who took part for their "obvious abilities and their enthusiasm." He concluded, "The Hactl International Forklift and Pallet Building Competition aims to combine fun and team spirit with serious messages about aviation safety and safety at work. These are vitally important issues which are embedded in Hactl’s DNA.”
