ICUs for all long hauls with Lufthansa

PRM Update
As of June this year, all aircraft in Lufthansa's long haul fleet will gain a new on board facility: "flying intensive care units".

Since 1999, the company has been using the Patient Transport Compartment on its Boeing 747-400 and Airbus A340 and A330 aircraft types, and the PTC will now feature in Lufthansa's entire network of long haul flights leaving from its hubs in the German cities of Frankfurt and Munich. On these aircraft, a modified version of the PTC designed for the Airbus A380 and Boeing 747-8 is being fitted.

Lufthansa estimates that 100 intensive care patients are transported in the PTC every year.

The PTC contains a patient bed, two seats for the doctor treating the patient and a Lufthansa crew member, as well as intensive care equipment, materials and medications.
