IAG launches Hangar 51 start-up programme

International Airlines Group has launched a global accelerator programme for new high tech companies.

IAG, parent company of British Airways, Iberia and Aer Lingus, is inviting new firms to pitch for a chance to join its new venture, Hangar 51, to collaborate on developing solutions to the challenges they face in their business.

The ten week programme is to be based at IAG’s London headquarters and aims to support the development of entrepreneurs in the aviation industry, with a focus on four main areas: improving airport processes, digitising and simplifying business processes, using data to increase customer satisfaction and create business value and, finally, the wildcard - any idea that start-ups believe can improve the customer experience.

The selected companies will gain customer insight and receive funding from IAG and L Marks, as well as mentoring from IAG’s senior management team to help accelerate their product development. Applications are open until midnight GMT on November 6 and entries can be submitted online at www.hangar51.com.

IAG’s head of digital transformation, Glenn Morgan, commented on the initiative, saying: “This initiative is a great opportunity for early stage businesses to fast-track their innovative ideas by working closely with IAG. We’ll fully support them through mentoring and funding to improve customer journeys with new disruptive and innovative ideas.”
