Going totally electric

Green Scene
France's Nice Côte d'Azur airport is set to become the first in the country to completely migrate to the use of renewable electricity with French hydraulic power from January 2015.

Electricité de France was chosen by the airport because of its commitment and innovation capability, after a discussion of 18 months with European energy experts and suppliers. The migration is one of the first steps taken by the airport with the Airport Carbon Accreditation scheme in order to achieve carbon neutrality by 2018. The airport will be able to decrease its carbon emissions by 60% with the purchase of hydropower and the new passenger emission level will be the equivalent to the emissions generated by a French citizen in 15 minutes. With this new move, Aéroports de la Côte d'Azur will bring on board most local authorities, as well as airlines and businesses present on the platform. From January 1 2015, more than 160 organisations will switch, along with Nice Côte d'Azur, airport to fully green, renewable electricity.
