GLC Special Service Requests celebrates first birthday

Global Load Control’s Special Service Requests (SSR) Business Unit is celebrating its first anniversary of assisting travel agents with specialised baggage handling requests.

Launched in May 2024, SSR works behind the scenes with agents working via a system queue to deliver seamless support without direct customer interaction.

The qualified agents, who are trained in aircraft-specific weight and balance regulations, help ensure that each request is handled safely, efficiently and with full compliance.

Specialised baggage that uses the service includes high-value or complex loads such as live animals, sports equipment, excess baggage or oversized items.

Since SSR’s launch, it has become an integral partner for Lufthansa, Lufthansa wet lease flights and Lufthansa City Airlines, especially during high-traffic seasons like summer.

It has resulted in smoother station performance and improved passenger experience.

Ilse de Waal, Business Unit Manager at GLC said: “Launching the SSR desk at GLC was exciting – from the start to now, we showcased innovation and creativity as well as adaptability to changing requirements. Our dedication and efforts have paid off, easing the load on the operational frontline. Well done to my SSR team!”
