dnata worker dies in high loader accident

A man in his 70s died after a 20-ton cargo loader was lowered onto his head in a tragic accident at Heathrow Airport, according to reports.

Police and medics were called at 20.40h on 23 February after receiving a report of a man injured at work at Terminal 3.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

There are reports that the dnata cargo worker was standing underneath the machine when his colleague accidentally lowered it onto his head.

But this has not been confirmed while an investigation is underway by the Met Police and the Health and Safety Executive. The outcome of which is expected later this year.

A dnata spokesman said: “We are deeply saddened to confirm that a dnata colleague passed away whilst on duty at London Heathrow Airport.

dnata expresses its deepest condolences to our colleague’s family and is providing all possible support to them at this difficult time. We are fully co-operating with the authorities in their investigations into the incident."

A Heathrow spokesperson said: “We can confirm that following a tragic accident on our airfield, an airport colleague has passed away. Our deepest condolences go to the family and friends affected by this accident. We will be fully cooperating with the authorities as they investigate this incident."

A Met Police spokesperson said: “Police were called at 20:41hrs on Wednesday, 23 February, after receiving a report of a man injured at work at Heathrow Airport. Officers and medics from London Ambulance Service attended.

“A man in his 70s was pronounced dead at the scene and the man’s family have been informed.

“The Health and Safety Executive has been informed and are carrying out a joint investigation alongside the Met’s Aviation Policing Command.”
