DHL opens €1m logistics facility at Schiphol airport

DHL Global Forwarding’s new 1,000 square metre logistics centre for life science and healthcare products has opened at Amsterdam-Schiphol airport.

The Life Science Competence Center, located at the business park, Schiphol Southeast, serves as a hub for the transport, preparation and storage of active and passive temperature-controlled consignments.

The facility comprises two separate areas; one dedicated to pharmaceutical products that require constant temperatures between two and eight degrees Celsius, the other maintaining a controlled temperature range between 15 and 25 degrees Celsius.

In addition, the new construction boasts a special temperature-controlled loading area, with a loading dock for both ULDs and pallets, and provides facilities to charge actively cooled containers as well as to replenish dry ice. Temperature and humidity sensors are installed and programmed to sound an alarm if conditions fall outside of the fixed parameters.

Combined, the two temperature divisions, along with the aforementioned hi-tech features, cater for all manner of pharmaceutical and medicinal products passing through the facility.
