The SAF delivery is part of a pilot project to demonstrate its commercial and technical viability, with used cooking oil being collected from restaurants at the airport.
Neste will convert the waste material into renewal fuels, replacing fossil fuels.
To complete the circle, Avfuel supplied Neste MY Sustainable Aviation Fuel to DFW Corporate Aviation, the airport’s full-service fixed-base operator for business aviation customers.
The 8,000-gallon load of SAF reduces carbon emissions by 19 tonnes, and Neste says its SAF reduces greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80% over its lifecycle compared to fossil jet fuel.
The airport, Avfuel and Neste will study the use of SAF, potentially making it available to commercial and cargo airlines with the aim of becoming net-zero by 2030.
