Jason Sandever Flight Operations Inspecting Officer has received the company's Brackley Memorial Trophy for championing safety and inclusivity within the ground handling community.
During his 19-year tenure with the CAA, Sandever has been the driving force ensuring that all ground handling elements are kept in line with the other key areas of industry.
His passion for safety and stakeholder engagement is recognised and appreciated by colleagues throughout the industry and within the CAA.
Alongside his role as an Inspecting Officer, Sandever is also co-chair of GHOST, the Ground Handling Operations Safety Team, which describes itself as, “a free voluntary industry working group, established by the UK CAA, to identify risks that affect ground and flight safety, during ground operational activities”.
Matt Smith, Inspecting Officer in Flight Operations at the UK Civil Aviation Authority said: “Jason has spent nearly 30 years striving hard to ensure that ground safety matters are given a strong and passionate voice, both within the CAA and worldwide industry. He is trusted and respected by so many people and this award is the appropriate recognition for his dedication to aviation safety.”
Sandever said: “To receive this award is truly an honour. Whilst my CAA colleagues wrote many humbling words to describe me and my career in aviation, recognition should also go to those I have worked with through the years, and to those who continue to work and promote safety within the ground operations community.”
Prior to the CAA, he worked in the air cargo sector as a loadmaster where he spent time working on aircraft such as the Lockheed L188 Electra and the Airbus A300.
In 2011, Jason joined forces with the Iron Maiden lead singer, Capt. Bruce Dickinson to produce the video ‘Safety in the balance’. This video was such a success and was used by multiple agencies to ensure all manner of aviation employees were aware of the importance of safe aircraft loading.
*The Brackley Memorial Trophy is awarded to an individual, a complete aircraft crew, or an organisation, for an outstanding contribution to air transport or transport aircraft operations.
