ABC and DHL trial RKN containers for pharma shipments from Russia

Cargo Matters
On November 24, AirBridgeCargo (ABC) Airlines successfully completed a multi-modal shipment trial for DHL Global Forwarding (DGF) from Moscow to Miami.

The trial involved the delivery of healthcare products using an RKN active cargo container in accordance with Good Distribution Practice cool chain standards.

The RKN cargo container ensures the integrity of pharma products by maintaining product temperatures in the +2 to +8°C range, the +15 to +25 °C range, or any chosen set temperature within the operating range of +0 to +20°C throughout the transportation process. The container can sustain the required temperature range whilst running on battery power for more than 90 hours.

For the trial shipment, ABC’s pharma logistics practitioners opted to use an abcPharma active solution using an Envirotainer RKN unit. Service water was used in place of real vaccines for the purposes of the trial.

Together with DHL Global Forwarding Russia, ABC’s pharma experts supplied the Envirotainer RKN unit to the customer’s warehouse and accepted the cargo as a fully built-up unit ready for carriage. For an RKN to be loaded in a pharmaceutical cooler of a production plant without additional cross-dock operations during the main leg of delivery to Miami represents a new solution in the Russian market.

The total solution provided by the ABC and DGF teams covered delivery, leasing and guaranteed customs clearance for the customer, as well as ensuring a minimum transit time and the elimination of temperature risk.

Fedor Novikov, Global Director, Pharma for AirBridgeCargo Airlines, said that the airline was proud to have been given the opportunity to demonstrate the quality of the its abcPharma product. “With ABC only developing temperature-sensitive solutions for less than a year, it is a huge achievement to be chosen to provide dedicated lift of healthcare products, which will improve the quality of life for people of the Republic of Nicaragua when we commence the delivery of vaccines in 2018.”
