It follows a remote-controlled vehicle test conducted at the airport in April 2023.
The airport’s first-of-its-kind Level 4 trial (i.e. no human operator on board) will be a practical test in a live airport environment, navigating constrained spaces such as baggage return areas and detecting and responding to pedestrians.
It is being conducted in collaboration with Peach Aviation Limited, Panasonic Holdings Corporation, Nagase Techno Service, and Kansai Airports, with the aim of exploring how autonomous GSE can support labour savings and improve operational flows.
The EZTow was provided for the Nagase Techno Service Level 3 autonomous driving test between December 2024 and April 2025, and will now be used for the Level 4 test.
TractEasy says the trial advances the remote-controlled vehicle tests in 2023 by integrating higher levels of autonomy.
Longer term, the work could combine autonomous and remote-controlled systems to offer flexible fleet management solutions across multiple airport sites.
