Swissport has won Ethiopian Airlines as a new customer in Switzerland and started providing full ground services at both Zurich and Geneva airports.
In Geneva, Swissport will also provide Ethiopian Airlines with cargo handling services.
Swissport will support 14 flights a week with Ethiopian Airlines operating flights from Zurich to Addis Ababa via Milan Malpensa and stopping in Geneva for services between Addis Ababa and Manchester in the UK.
Bruno Stefani, CEO of the DACH, Italy and France region for Swissport, said: “Since Swissport is already providing airport ground services for the airline at Rome-Fiumicino and many other airports around the globe, we are delighted that Ethiopian Airlines has now also decided to work with us in Zurich and Geneva thanks to our strong customer focus.”
Swissport will take over ground services for more than 750 flights operated by Aegean Airlines from Zurich.
Flight activity varies with the seasons with more flights in the summer months than the winter.
Aegean Airlines services Zurich Airport primarily with Airbus A320s to destinations in Greece including Athens, Thessaloniki and Heraklion.
Swissport already provides Aegean Airlines with check-in, boarding, baggage handling and de-icing services at Geneva and Basel airports.
Andreas Keller, Managing Director Switzerland and France at Swissport International, said: “This is an important vote of confidence for us from Greece's largest airline. With the new contract we continue to expand our customer portfolio in the highly competitive market at Zurich Airport.”
