Baggage handling seminar a success

Handling Talk
On July 15, a day-long seminar entitled Luggage, Handling and Catering was held in São Paulo, and attended by more than 200 people.

Amongst those attending were managers and directors of airlines, airport managers, public authorities, experts and representatives of ESATAs (the auxiliary companies in the air transport sector). Discussion topics on the agenda included quality control and reduction of losses with lost luggage, hiring and training, the use and maintenance of GSE, and certification and standardisation procedures.

Noteworthy was the signing of the letter of intent between the Brazilian Association of Auxiliary Services Companies Air Transport (Abesata) and the Institute for Technological Research (IPT) to develop certification for checked baggage. The duo plans to adapt the Brazilian air transport model on a national level initially, before expanding on an international basis following testing. Their joint objective is to minimise the costs relating to damage in handling during air transportation.

In addition to the protocol signed with the IPT, Abesata has also joined forces with the College of Indaiatuba (lesi) and Professor Dr Ricardo Tannus, General Director of the Institute said of the partnership: "Abesata's initiative is commendable. With this partnership, we put 90 classrooms, libraries and laboratories at the disposal of civil aviation, five minutes from Viracopos airport. The Iesi also want to breathe aviation kerosene."
